Your new favourite restaurant in Paris.

If you're anything like me and spend far too much time looking at Paris restaurant recommendations on social media, then I'm sure you've heard of the steak and frites at Le Relais de l'Entrecôte. Well, surprise surprise, a lot of other people have also heard of it, and when I went to go, the line was one-in, one-out - which moves very slowly when their main appeal is endless steak and frites. So alas, I gave up.

However, fear not - because thanks to another TikTok recommendation (and further confirmation from a friend), I have found my new favourite restaurant in Paris to fulfil all your steak and frites cravings. Let me introduce you to Poulette in the 1st arrondissement.

The bottle of wine is ordered, and we pretend to look over the menu, as if we don't already know we're both getting the steak and frites. The wine itself was a “Binner Elsassisch is Bombisch!” Riesling, which started the night out in style. The slight fizz made for a fun accessory to the apple and mint notes.

Then the star of the show arrived (well, we thought it would be the star - but something else may have just topped it... more on that later). The combination of the balsamic on the lettuce with the medium steak was enough to make my mouth water before it even hit my lips. The skin-on frites were perfectly cooked and added a nice salty touch. Plates were licked clean and wine glasses dried. Then the waiter tempted us with the dessert menu - which we politely accepted.

That’s when I saw it: chocolate fondant. My favourite dessert. Uh oh. Dessert was promptly ordered - the fondant for me, and a lemon tart for my friend. And then we realised we couldn’t possibly enjoy dessert without a cocktail, so we asked for the waiter’s favourite: an espresso martini. Whilst we waited eagerly, we enjoyed people-watching and further admiring the tiled wall.

The cocktails arrived, and I couldn’t believe my eyes. The most stunning espresso cocktail - nay, beverage - had ever seen. The desserts followed. Initially, I was disappointed, expecting a lava cake. However, that disappointment quickly dissolved with my first bite. Heaven. I was literally transported to heaven. The love affair I had with the fondant made me feel I should call my boyfriend and apologise. However, the large dollop of cream on top was punishment enough for my lactose-intolerant stomach.

With a full belly and a slightly tipsy head, I was welcomed back into the cool Parisian night. The grief I felt for the meal that was now just a memory lingered. But never fear, stomach - I will be back (even if just to check in on my new paramour: the fondant).

Adress: 3 Rue Étienne Marcel, 75001 Paris, France
